And Dynamic Lighting (which is cool, but such a pain to set up and, if you over do it, will bog down Roll20 so badly that it becomes unplayable. Especially the scripts which automate things like FG does. Access to all the wonderful scripts that automate soooo many functions, lots of storage space, transmogrifier, tokens, etc.

It's a matter of taste as to which one you pick.ĮDIT: You mentioned spending money on these, so I'll give you a glimpse at my thought process:įG full "Ultimate" edition/version = $140 one time payment OR 10/month. So bottom line (and my opinion): Both are excellent and get the job done very well. But as FG has >400000 people playing 5e so finding a group has been no issue for me. It's difficult to tell as they give subscriber numbers and, as we all know, that doesn't necessarily translate to players. I may be wrong, but I think Roll20 may have a bigger play group/audience. And since we weren't using the Integrated V/V, when we went back to FG, it didn't impact our game at all. We went with Discord and never went back. So frustrating! One session it'll work great and the next: total crap. My only suggestion is: Stay away from the integrated Voice/Video. If you're looking for a base experience that works great, free Roll20 is the way to go. While Roll20 is free to play, all the really cool stuff (dynamic lighting, API to automate stuff and make macros, transmogrifier, etc.) are behind a paywall. Which is also the top subscription amount for Roll20. Some people will remark on the price of FG, but you can do a subscription for about $10/month. I prefer Fantasy Grounds as all the work is done for me in regards to PHB, MM, DMG, Adventures, Sourcebooks, etc. All rights reserved.ĭesigned for Fantasy Grounds version 3.0.10 and higher. As I said in the previous post, I played on Roll20 for about a couple of years and have owned Fantasy Grounds since December 8th, 2004.
